We provides disability and mental health support services to empower individuals to live life on their own terms. We have over 30 years of experience in disability support and advocacy, with a toolbox of skills to help NDIS participants achieve their goals and a framework to measure impact.
Short Term Accommodation (STA) is an NDIS-funded support that helps participants keep doing the things their informal supports normally help them with, while giving both the participant and their primary informal supports mutually rewarding time apart. It's not just a break for carers — it needs to relate to your disability support needs and help you pursue your goals and take part in your community. AbilitySeer can help you understand if STA is right for your circumstances and support you to use it well.
Welcome to AbilitySeer, where we are committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with diverse abilities through our comprehensive NDIS respite and short-term accommodation program.
Can Participants No Longer Access STA/Respite? STA hasn't been removed as a funded support — eligible participants can still access it. The NDIS did refresh its Operational Guideline for Short Term Accommodation in June 2026, setting out clearer criteria for how it's assessed — including how it relates to your disability support needs, your current informal support arrangements, and value for money. There's a lot of misinformation circulating, so it's worth checking the official guideline or talking to your NDIS contact or support coordinator about how the current criteria apply to you.
Accessing STA and respite care involves working with your NDIS planner or support coordinator to identify the need for these services and include them in your NDIS plan. Once approved, participants and their families can choose from various STA providers who offer suitable accommodations and support services tailored to their needs.
Respite is available through your Core Support Funding.
Minimum booking for our STA/respite is a package for a 1-night, 2-day

Yes. The NDIS doesn’t fund meals, activities, entry fees, or travel costs you can manage independently as part of STA. You’ll budget for your own food and any optional activities at your accommodation, though the one-on-one support you need to take part in them can still be funded. If your plan includes separate transport funding, that can still cover getting to and from your stay.
Your friend is welcome to join you, but the NDIS can’t fund their travel, accommodation or meals — these would be at your own cost, and only where the venue has room. Talk to us about what’s possible.

We’d love to welcome your furry friend. Let us know at the time of enquiry so we can allocate pet-friendly accommodation — though we can’t always guarantee availability.
